Innisfree Smart Foundation Dust Block Review

Innisfree has always been one of my favorite brands in Korea which I am fairly loyal to.
When ever I am in need of simple skincare and makeup, Innisfree is always my first stop.

I love their brand concept as well as the design of their products and the overall products in general.
Everything they product interests me and I am also very much so addicted to their sheet masks.

However, I am not very loyal to their base makeup after a not so impressive experience last year with their Sebum Control BB Cream which was overall extremely disappointing for me.

However, I have been curious lately in trying new foundations as my skin has remained to be very dry this year even though it is already 20+ Celsius outside…

So I was in Innisfree the other day looking to get my hands on the Jeju Thermal Mineral Water Cream, which to my surprise was out of stock.

So I grabbed a few things and in there was the Innisfree Smart Foundation Dust Block SPF 35 PA ++.

Why Dust Block?

If you aren’y residing in an east Asian Country, you may be unaware of what “Dust” is.
Have you ever wondered why so many Asian residences where masks?
1 main reason (mostly for spring) is the Yellow Dust or better yet, fine particle pollution.

This pollution that floats over from China is very harmful to the human body on days where the particulate matter is high. Breathing in the air can cause cold symptoms and even make you sick.

Not only is it harmful to breathe in, but it can be very harmful to the skin over time.
Especially to those who have sensitive skin and are acne prone. It can seriously clog the pores causing nasty breakouts as well as irritation from all the pollutants.

I figured I would give this foundation a shot since I know for a fact I am very sensitive to the Dust here in Korea as it has made me sick on many different occasions after being outside in it.

My Experience

The foundation comes in a VERY small package of only 15mL which is shockingly tiny.
However, the price is quite extremely affordable running at around 5,000 won ($5 USD).

My color is a perfect match in True Beige #23

Innisfree suggests mixing all their foundations with their blending products. They have 3 different blending agents you can choose from which target different skincare concerns. However I decided to try this foundation on its own.

Application

The foundation applies smoothly and it easily blended into moisturized skin. It does not cling to any dry areas of the face. I personally found this product to be best applied with my Sigma 3D Kabuki to a light and natural looking application.

For more coverage, this foundation for me was best applied with my fingers. However I do not recommend this product be used with any sponge application as the product will be too quickly absorbed into the sponge. But you can achieve a nice sheer application with a moist beauty blender.

Wear

This foundation provides a nice effortless application and easily achieved flawless look for a short period of time. After only 3 hours (without setting spray or powder) the foundation sinks into the fine lines on the skin and begins to look caked. I personally would not use a powder overtop of this foundation at it would be way to drying on my skin. This foundation on its own without a blender product is not suitable for full day wear. My skin felt dry very quickly while wearing it and looked unpleasant after a few hours. Mind you, it did provide excellent buildable medium coverage.

Overall

I think I will purchase the Innisfree Shimmer Blender for this foundation as it looks quite dull on its own.
I would not wear this foundation if I require it to be on my skin for more then 4 hours as it does not look flattering past that time frame.
On the up-side, I was happy that this foundation did not cause me to develop any breakouts or irritation.

As for it’s “Dust Blocking” properties, it truly is hard to tell if it really did anything.
However I can say that this foundation did was off very nicely at the end of its use.

For the price, it is a good buy for those lazy days where you need to go somewhere really quick.
And it is reassuring to know your skin is protected from the UV rays and any pollution.

Repurchase?

Probably not.
