Sugar Scrub’s are an essential in my weekly skincare routine and exfoliation routine and have been for many years now. I used to think that a sugar scrub was not that important in a routine, but after I found this holy grail sugar scrub, my life was changed. So today I want to share with you all a detailed review on a product that has been in my routine for the past 4 years, not being replaced by any other, the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish.
Klairs Sugar Scrub Claims
The Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish has recently been revamped to contain almost double the amount of product, plus it is now official Vegan friendly making it even better then it was before! The klairs sugar scrub claims to:
- Cruelty free
- no alcohol
- silicon free
- zero animal bi products (vegan)
- pigment free
- Exfoliate away dead skin cells
- Pulls waste away from the skin
- Remove and control blackheads
- Provide moisture for dry skin types
Those are some amazing claims! Just recently this claims list has been increased thanks to the improvement in the formula!
Packaging & Texture
The Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish packaging has generally been the same over the past 4 years with only small enhancements to the labeling until recently. In mid 2017 Klairs revamped the formula and created new and improved packaging to upgrade the scrub. It now comes in a larger jar, with beveled corners, clear labeling and is now comes with a provided skincare spatula. You no longer need to worry about getting sugar crystals under your finger nails or having to worry about finding your own skincare spatula to maintain product hygiene when extracting the scrub from the jar. The jar is still a dark tinted plastic but that does not bother me. Klairs also made sure to provide the scrub in a nicely designed box, holding the jar and spatula.
The texture doesn’t appear to have changed much compared to the older formula even though bees wax was removed. However the bees wax was replaced with what looks like was Candellila Wax Esters, which is a popular plant wax from Australia & Mexico. Since it is a plant derived wax, its replacement for bees wax is what now makes the Klairs scrub vegan friendly. Overall when I used the improved scrub, I noticed no real difference in the texture or application & use. However off the subject of texture, the Klairs scrub contains many natural and gentle ingredients as it rules out silicons, alcohols and dyes. Unfortunately, it contains a small amount of fragrance which I am unsure of if it is natural or artificial fragrance as the list does not specify.
Application & Results
Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish is to be applied to the skin mixed with a few drops of water. However this is not how I like to use this scrub. I personally enjoy it most when mixed with my cleansing oil such as the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. I have been using it in this cleansing oil method for years! It has proven to be my ideal method and the way I recommend it to be used. By mixing it with cleansing oil, you can easily melt makeup away. All while simultaneously removing dead skin cells and surfacing blackheads. It is a 1 step solutions to so many things!
I recommend adding 1 small scoop of the sugar scrub into dry palms, then adding 2 pumps of Klairs cleansing oil and combining them together in the palm of your hand. Then massage the mixture onto your dry unwashed skin to dissolve makeup. You can focus on areas with blackheads by simple scrubbing a little more on the areas of concern.
Results wise, I always am happy! It melts away my makeup, wipes away flaking dead skin and scrubs my rough textured blackheads of with ease! It always leaves my skin looking and feeling like baby skin!
Overall
There is a reason why this has been my favorite holy grail product for 4 years now. It does what it claims without causing me irritation or breakouts. Which is a bit surprising since this scrub does have fragrance, however it always makes my skin happy! I have not once felt any need or desire to use or find any other facial scrub, the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish always does the trick. It helps get rid of blackheads, fight against clogged pores and acne and manages my dry flaking skin.
It seriously is my holy grail sugar scrub.
