Hey friends! I am assuming you’re arriving at my blog because you discovered Deciem The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA serum and are wondering if it is a skincare product you should include in your routine. Well let me tell you more about this facial serum, what it’s functions are, how it works, how it functioned on my skin, and why it might be right for me.

What is Matrixyl?

To be honest, matrixyl can be a bit of a trick word if you’re new to it. Essential, Matrixyl is a form of peptide, however, it is different from all others. Matrixyl also is known as palmitoyl-pentapeptide 3, a peptide with long-term lasting results that stimulate collagen synthesis in the skin and skin cell repair.

What are peptide skin benefits?

While matrixyl is a top performer when it comes to peptides. Of course, there are other peptides on the market that deliver similar results and are more commonly found in skincare geared toward anti-aging, dry skin, sensitive skin, and damaged skin. Peptides overall work to repair damaged skin, add deep nourishment, lift and plump the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and help soothe any symptoms associated to dry skin issues.

All in all, peptides are a holy grail skincare ingredient for anyone who has dry, flaking skin that is also aging and concerned about wrinkles.

since peptides come in many different forms and formulations, they can either be in skincare that can feel heavy on the skin or lightweight on the skin. Which brings us to this Deciem The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA review.

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA review

Peptides have always been of high interest to me ever since I learned about them in my youth as a skincare specialist. Yet, they were never something I needed in my routine until recent years. As someone with dry skin that is starting to age, I need to add functional skincare products into my routine that deliver more than hydration and moisture. Which brought me to Deciem The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA serum.

What I love about The Ordinary line is the simplicity light-weight formulas they offer alongside their affordable approach. Retailing at $11.50 this Matrixyl serum is very affordable. But what makes it desirable?

Ingredients

Let’s take a look at this peptide serum and see what makes it tick.

Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

I have bolded the key ingredient in the serum. Butylene Glycol, a hydrating agent. 3 different types of peptides, the nourishing anti-aging antioxidants that build Matrixyl, as well as sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid (HA) that pulls hydration into the skin. The other ingredients are stabilizers, emulsifiers, and preservatives that are the building blocks to skincare formulations.

Texture & Application

Like most Deciem The Ordinary products, the Matrixyl 10% + HA serum has a somewhat gel syrup-like consistency. It glides smoothly over the skin, allowing for maximum coverage while leaving the skin feeling hydrated and mildly moisturized.

The texture upon application can have a bit of a tacky feeling that is not sticky. This is a feeling I find consistent with most of the Deciem formulations.

When applied on dry skin, the serum is not as spreadable and can absorb rather quickly depending on how dry your skin is. I usually apply this serum after a hydrating toner to maximize spreadability and product absorption.

Overall Results

Unlike acids, peptides do not have the same immediate satisfaction. This serum is one that needs to be used long-term and frequently to enjoy the benefits of matrixyl peptides.

The first time I used this product at night, I woke up the next morning and noticed that my skin felt more bouncy, supple, and full of moisture then without. As I do not have wrinkles at this stage of my life, it is not possible for me to gauge its effects on existing wrinkles.

I have been using this serum for several months no and can say with confidence that this is a must in my routine. Without it, I notice my skin is not as full of moisture compared to when I use it.

After these several months, I no longer have any active eczema spots, dry patches, or dehydration fine lines.

Why continue using it?

It is important to remember that the first steps to anti-aging and keeping your skin looking youthful for longer, is the preventative steps you take earlier in life.

I will actively continue to use matrixyl in my routine moving forward as a preventative measure to ensure my skin is not susceptible to wrinkles.

Peptides and matrixyl help to maintain and build up the moisture collagen layer between your skin cells. This layer can be viewed as the “glue” keeping your skin cells together. As you age, that glue weakens, and that is when you begin to see fine line, wrinkes, and sagging skin. The more you maintain and support that “glue”, the longer your skin can look youthful and healthy.
